1. Vieques

But, while Vieques is one of the easier Puerto Rico dive sites, its shallow reefs offer an unforgettable experience for novices and experts alike. Some spots to investigate include Blue Tang Reef, Cayo Afuera, and Esperanza Pier.
2. The Wall
One of the most famous sites for diving in Puerto Rico is The Wall, off the mainland’s southwest coast near La Parguera. At 22 miles long and with drop-offs of more than 1,500 feet, there are plenty of different Puerto Rico dive sites to explore from here. And, with up to 150 feet visibility, you’re sure to see some of the best underwater Puerto Rico biodiversity. In particular, Fallen Rock is divers’ favorite, offering a deep ocean floor trench that’s home to black coral orchids, sharks, and octopi.
3. Culebra
Another of Puerto Rico’s island paradises, Culebra boasts several unique diving sites, including the Wit Power sunken tugboat, resting just 40 feet below the surface. Then, there’s the vibrant coral reef off the coast of Carlos Rosario, where snorkelers and divers flock to catch the wealth of marine life on display. Or for more advanced divers, the underwater tunnels of Geniqui Caves are a delight to explore by lamplight.
4. Mona Island
Known as the Galapagos of Puerto Rico, Mona lies 50 miles off the coast of Mayagüez and promises Puerto Rico biodiversity at its best. This uninhabited island is home to turtles, iguanas, and seabirds, as well as more than 270 species of fish living below the surface. Divers venturing out to Mona can also see dolphins, sharks, and even humpback whales between January and March.
5. Desecheo
Desecheo, another uninhabited island, lies around an hour from the west coast of the mainland. Featuring bright tube coral at Yellow Reef, underwater caves, and plenty of marine life, Desecheo is a must-visit for divers and snorkelers alike.
